PENNY ARCADE TV [23 Nov 2009|04:48pm]
i don't know about the rest of you, but personally i read Penny Arcade pretty religiously. it is consistently one of the funniest pieces of any sort of media i have ever encountered, and simultaneously has a blog portion which displays a kind of unprecedented thoughtfulness and intelligence towards a medium about which i care greatly (videogames). i have read all 10 years of their backlogged archive, and continue to check for updates every monday, wednesday and friday. jerry holkins and mike krahulik are two of my heroes, i put them on a pedestal in terms of leading the way into an era of self-acknowledging geekdom, in which the geek is proud of who he is and revels happily in the overflowing rush of niche and genre entertainment across the spectrum of entertainment mediums now available. it is admirable what they have accomplished with their charity Child's Play, and one of these days i will actually buy a plane ticket and go to PAX.

that being said, they have just posted the first two episodes of their reality show, based on their work on the webcomic and on PAX, and they can be watched at http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/. i just finished the first episode, and it actually effected me on an emotional level which i did not expect, to see these two men, of a type usually shunned by the popular world, actually making and creating something that champions that which they love, and - largely i think because of the evidence in their work of their joy in what they do - has prospered beyond what they could have possibly imagined. go watch it now.

'On the boat I talked to a man who knows the Ecuador jungle like his prick. It seems jungle traders periodically raid the Auca (a tribe of hostile Indians. Shell lost about 20 employees to the Auca in two years) and carry off women they keep penned up for purposes of sex. Sounds interesting. Maybe I could capture an Auca boy.
'I have precise instructions for Auca raiding. It's quite simple. You cover both exits of Auca house and shoot everybody you don't wanna fuck.'
